CSSL24 / Useful information / Accommodation

This box contains important information regarding accommodations during CreteLing 2024.
Please read it carefully

There are two options available to you: Private accommodation rentals or a University dorm.
  • Private accommodation rentals: Airbnb.com, booking.com or similar. This choice will give you more options with respect to the price and luxury level of your accommodations. Other advantages are that the rental will come with its own kitchen, and will also provide you with pots, pans, plates and cutlery, as well as sheets and towels.
  • University dorms: The dorms of the University of Crete are located in the following two places:
    • The Gallos dorm is located on campus. The Gallos dorm has single rooms. If you have been assigned a single room, you will be assigned to Gallos.
    • The Xenia dorm is located in the downtown of Rethymnon. Xenia dorms have only double (shared) rooms.
  • Amenities
    • All rooms have a private bathroom and a shared kitchenette.
    • In the Gallos dorms, the kitchenette has a fridge (no stoves) shared by 4 rooms.
    • In the Xenia dorms, there is a big shared kitchen on each floor (3 floors) and there are fridges and stoves.
    • Neither of the dorms provides cutlery, plates or pots and pans.
    • The dorm rooms have no hair-dryer. If you need one, please bring your own, or buy one locally.
    • In both dorms, there is a washing and a drying machine (free of charge).
    • Students will be responsible for cleaning their own linen during their stay.
    • Cleaning personnel will clean the common spaces every 3 days. Students are responsible for the cleanliness of their bedrooms.
    • Students should bring their own linen, that is, a pair of sheets, a pillow-case, and towels. Pillows will be provided by the summer school. No blankets will be necessary.
  • Specifically for Gallos dorms: There is only one small convenience store on campus, which is closed during the weekend. Students will be able to get supplies from the city of Rethymnon or from Gallos village (20 minute walk from the Gallos dorms).
  • In case you prefer a private rental or if you are on the dorm waiting list, the application form will give you the possibility to add your name and email address to an off-campus accommodations list, which will circulate (only) among its members. This will permit you to find other CreteLingers with who you can share a private rental.
Meals
The campus restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch (no dinner) during the period of the summer school.
You can have breakfast or lunch at the campus restaurant regardless of where you are staying.
Student prices apply to everybody (less than 5 euros each meal). During the day, there are also cafeterias where you can get coffee, soft drinks, sandwiches, cheese pies etc.
