Accommodations
During CreteLing2026, we will not have access to the university dorms because they will be under renovation. In light of this, we have taken the following steps to help you out with this situation:
  • If you have been to CreteLing before, you will automatically be accepted to CreteLing2026. You will need to apply but you do not need to wait for an acceptance letter from us to start looking for accommodations. This means that you can already now, i.e. even before applying, start to look for accommodations on the relevant platforms. However, if you plan to apply for a Van Riemsdijk Foundation grant, we need to receive a recommendation letter from your referee by the deadline.
  • If you have NOT been to CreteLing before, we promise to process your application as soon as possible after receiving it. This means that the earlier you apply, the sooner we can notify you of admission, the sooner you can start looking for a rental.
  • We have reserved a small number of bedrooms (two beds and a bath; 3 beds and a bath) at this hotel. One advantage of this hotel is that there is a bus that stops right in front of it that goes directly to campus. We have negotiated the price to 30 euros (+VAT) per night per bed (NOT per room). Breakfast is not included. For applicants who are interested in booking one of the beds/rooms reserved by us, there is a related option in the application form. Details about how to make payment will be included in your admission letter. Later on, you will be given the chance to request specific roommates.
  • This hotel also has four 4-bed rooms and three 5-bed rooms available, which we have not reserved and their prices will vary. If you want, and you plan to come with a group of friends, you can on your own reserve these 4-/5-bed rooms already now through the relevant sites.
  • For applicants who are interested in connecting with others to arrange their own shared accommodations, there is a related option on the application page.
Application instructions
  • Everyone interested in attending CreteLing needs to apply to the school by submitting the online application form, uploading their CV (in pdf format) and, if a student, providing the name of a referee.
  • Faculty (active or retired) and PostDocs need to fill in the online application form and submit a CV. No letter of reference is required.
  • Students (undergraduate and graduate) and independent scholars/other applying to CreteLing2026 will need to:
    • a) fill in the online application form,
    • b) upload a short CV in PDF format (including information regarding the linguistics courses they have taken),
    • c) ask their referee/supervisor/instructor to send a reference letter to creteling.admissions@gmail.com. Please make sure your referee submits the letter as soon as possible. Your referee will not receive a prompt from us. Without the reference letter you cannot be admitted to the school if you are applying for the first time and you cannot be considered for a Van Riemsdijk Foundation grant, even if you are a returner.
Note that:
  • a) UoC students will receive a tuition waiver but only if they fill in the application form using their institutional e-mail address.
  • b) Van Riemsdijk Foundation fellowships will be based on merit (based on the applicant's CV and reference letter) and will be equally distributed among undergraduate and graduate students.
  • c) After submitting your application, you will see a confirmation page and a submission confirmation email will be sent to your email account. This means your application has gone through successfully. Please make sure you save a copy of the confirmation page (in the unlikely case that something goes wrong). If you are unable to submit your application, please write to creteling.ao@gmail.com
Admissions Procedure

If you apply by April 5, you will be notified about the status of your application as soon as possible and definitely within 15 days. The tuition fees associated with this early deadline are lower than the tuition fees associated with the regular application deadline (May 8).

After receiving their acceptance letter, applicants need to confirm their participation via e-mail to the administrative officer at creteling.ao@gmail.com and proceed to payment to the school (i.e. registration) within the deadline mentioned in their letter of acceptance. Accepted applicants who do not confirm or pay within the deadline will lose their spot.

Applicants who submit their application by the regular deadline (i.e. May 8) will be notified about their admission to the school by May 24, at the latest. After notification regarding their admission, applicants need to confirm their participation via e-mail to creteling.ao@gmail.com and proceed to payment within the deadline that will be given in their letter of acceptance.

Registration is completed only after payment of the tuition fees has gone through. Registered participants will receive a letter with their password in order to log in to Course Material and select their Courses.
